Dr. Deepak Kumar Sinha assumed the office of the Director, Atomic Minerals Directorate for Exploration and Research (AMD) w.e.f. 1st January, 2020.
Dr. Sinha, after obtaining M.Tech in Applied Geology from Dr. Harisingh Gour University, Saugor, Madhya Pradesh joined AMD in 1984. He was awarded Ph.D. degree in Geology by Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj [RTM] Nagpur University, Nagpur in 1993.
Dr. Sinha has vast experience in exploration of atomic minerals spanning over 38 years in different geological domains of Eastern, Western and Central parts of India. During his formative years, he has worked extensively in many parts of Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. Subsequently he has been associated with exploration in several important geological domains of Rajasthan. In various higher capacities, he has been ardently executing the exploration programmes in the important geological domains of the country including Proterozoic basins such as Chhattisgarh, Khairagarh and Vindhyan and the Proterozoic Aravalli and Delhi Fold Belts. His skillful exploration strategy resulted in significant augmentation of atomic minerals in the states of Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan and Jharkhand.
He has served as Head, Planning and Management Services Group, Deputy Regional Director, Western Region and Regional Director, Eastern Region. As Regional Director, Eastern Region, Dr. Sinha was instrumental in discovery, development and establishing of a unique polymetallic uranium deposit at Kudada, near Turamdih Uranium Mine, Jharkhand. As Additional Director, he has effectively guided and monitored the Airborne and Heliborne survey operations for uranium exploration in different parts of India and Enterprise level Geospatial Database Management System (EGDMS) project of AMD.
Dr. Sinha is a devoted researcher in exploration geology and has widely traversed across the country to gain experience in geo-exploration. He has conceived many new concepts which are widely implemented in uranium exploration programme of the country. His strong geological acumen to collaborate with Universities and Research institutions has been widely appreciated by academia. He is an adjunct professor in Homi Bhabha National Institute (HBNI), Mumbai, an institute of national Importance and a recognized Ph.D supervisor for RTM Nagpur University, Nagpur and Osmania University, Hyderabad.
Dr. Sinha has attended the “International Convention, Trade Show and Investors Exchange Meet, 2013 at Toronto, Canada. He has attended the International Symposium on “Uranium Raw Material for the Nuclear Fuel Cycle Exploration, Mining, Production, Supply and Demand, Economics and Environmental Issues” (URAM-2018) at Vienna, Austria in 2018. As a Member of IAEA Uranium Group, he has attended the 56th Uranium Group Meeting at IAEA, Vienna, Austria in 2020 and 57th virtual Uranium Group Meeting (UGM) – 2021 held at Paris, France. Dr. Sinha has been part of the delegation to Oman, during March, 2022, in connection with MoU with Ministry of Energy and Minerals of Sultanate of Oman. Presently he is the president of Indian Nuclear Society, Hyderabad Branch.
Dr. Sinha has carried out several strategic assignments for Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) and his contributions have been recognised by the Department in 2012 by conferring upon him “Special Contribution Award-2011” for valuable services in the field of Nuclear Science & Technology and to the programme of the DAE.
As Group Leader, Dr. D.K. Sinha received the “DAE Group Achievement Award – 2019” for the discovery and development of unique polymetallic uranium deposit at Kudada, Jharkhand.
Dr. Sinha has also been conferred with “AEG-Sriram Srinivasan Award – 2020” of Association of Exploration Geophysicists.
Dr. Sinha has been selected for the Homi Bhabha Science & Technology Award for the year 2020 in recognition of his outstanding contributions under DAE (Excellence in Science, Engineering & Technology) Award Scheme.
Dr. Sinha has published three (03) books and more than 120 research articles in various National and International journals and conferences.
