  • Rare Minerals Survey Unit brought under Atomic Energy Commission on July 29 and renamed as ‘Raw Materials Division’ (RMD), with Headquarters at New Delhi.
1951
  • Discovery of uranium deposit at Jaduguda, Singhbhum district, Jharkhand. First borehole drilled by the Associated Drilling Company, London.
1955
  • Procurement of four drilling rigs and commencement of exploratory drilling departmentally in the Singhbhum district, Jharkhand.
  • Commencement of Airborne radiometric surveys.
  • Indigenous fabrication of field instruments for exploration of Atomic Minerals.

  • Discovery of uranium mineralisation at Umra, Udaipur district, Rajasthan.

  • Evaluation and resource estimation of Narwapahar uranium deposit, Singhbhum district, Jharkhand was completed.
1971
  • Discovery of xenotime occurrence at Kunkuri, Raigarh district, Chattisgarh.
1972
  • Evaluation and reserve estimation of heavy mineral resources of Chhatrapur, Berhampur district, Orissa and Neendakara-Kayankulam, Kerala were completed.
1973
  • Discovery of uranium deposit at Bodal, Rajnandagaon district, Chattisgarh.
1974
  • AMD Headquarters shifted from New Delhi to Hyderabad.
1976
  • Setting up of the Northeastern Circle Office at Shillong, Meghalaya.
  • Commencement of exploratory mining at Bodal and Jajawal, Chattisgarh.
1978
  • High-sensitive Airborne gamma ray spectrometric and magnetic surveys started.
1979
  • Evaluation and resource estimation of Bhatin and Turamdih (East) uranium deposits, Singhbhum district, Jharkhand was completed.
  • Discovery of spodumene bearing tantaliferous pegmatite at Marlagalla, Mandya district, Karnataka.
1983
  • Construction of calibration pads at Nagpur, Maharashtra for calibration of gamma ray spectrometry instruments.
1984
  • Discovery of sandstone-type uranium deposit at Domiasiat, West Khasi Hills district, Meghalaya.
1985
  • Evaluation and resource estimation of Bodal uranium deposit, Rajnandagaon district, Chhattisgarh was completed.
1986
  • Discovery of dolostone-hosted uranium mineralisation at Tummalapalle in the western margin of Cuddapah basin, Andhra Pradesh.
1987
  • Evaluation and resource estimation of Turamdih (West) (Banduhurang) uranium deposit, Singhbhum district, Jharkhand was completed.
1988
  • Northwestern (presently Western) and South Central Region Offices were set up at Jaipur and Hyderabad respectively.
  • Evaluation and estimation of heavy mineral resources of Kuttumangalam and Vettumadia sand deposits was completed.
  • Commencement of AMD’s Publication, Exploration and Research for Atomic Minerals ‘EARFAM’.
1989
  • Evaluation and resource estimation of Mohuldih Uranium deposit, Singhbhum district, Jharkhand was completed.
  • AMD participated in Antarctica Expedition.
1991
  • Discovery of uranium mineralisation at Lambapur, Nalgonda district, Andhra Pradesh.
  • National Mineral Award for discovery of the Domiasiat Uranium deposit.
1992
  • Discovery of beach sand heavy mineral deposit at Kalingapatnam Coast, Srikakulam district, Andhra Pradesh.
  • Setting up of test recovery plant at Domiasiat for extraction of uranium.
1993
  • Evaluation and resource estimation of Domiasiat uranium deposit, West Khasi Hills district, Meghalaya was completed.
1994
  • Discovery of uranium deposit at Wahkyn, West Khasi Hills district, Meghalaya.
1996
  • Two National Mineral Awards for
  • Discovery of Lambapur Uranium deposit
  • Development of pug-cure-leach technique for extraction of uranium (from Domiasiat Ore).
1997
  • Discovery of uranium mineralisation in brecciated limestone at Gogi, Gulbarga district, Karnataka in the Bhima basin.
1998
  • AMD enters the Golden Jubilee Year.
  • Atomic Minerals Division renamed as ‘Atomic Minerals Directorate for Exploration and Research’.
  • National Mineral Award in the field of Geophysics for valuable contribution in instrumentation of air borne geophysical surveys.
1999
  • National Mineral award for discovery of Gogi uranium occurrence, Gulbarga district, Karnataka.
2001
  • Evaluation and resource estimation of Lambapur-Peddagattu uranium deposit, Nalgonda district, Andhra Pradesh was completed.
  • Discovery of rich heavy mineral concentration in beach sands at Bramhagiri, Puri district, Orissa.
2002
  • National Mineral award in the field of Mineral Exploration
2004
  • Office building at Western Region Jaipur was inaugurated by Dr. Anil Kakodkar, Chairman AEC.
2007
  • Ground breaking ceremony at Gogi mines site was held on 18th June 2007 for exporatory mining.
2009
  • Dr Anil Kakodkar, Chairman, AEC inaugurated the newly conctructed 'C' Block, AMD Complex, Hyderabad.
  • Crawler mounted Top drive hydrostatic rigs have been commissioned to enhance drilling productivity
2010
  • The first Orientation Course for Science Postgraduates (OCES-2010) of BARC Training School, AMD Campus, Hyderabad was inaugurated
2012
  • Evaluation and resource estimation of Tummalapalle uranium deposit, Kadapa district, Andhra Pradesh has reached 75,000 tonnes of U3O8
  • National Geoscience Award for discovery of Chitrial Uranium deposit
2013
  • National Geoscience Award for discovery and exploration of Tummalapalle uranium deposit
  • Country's total Beach Sand Heavy Mineral (BSM) resources cross one billion  tonne mark
  • Video conferencing system commissioned connecting Headquarters and all the Regional Centers

 

2014
  • Country's Uranium resources cross two lakh tonne mark
  • Borehole Trajectory Logging System and  Transportable Calibration Pad fabricated indigenously

 

2015
  • Sonic Drilling initiated in Beach Sand Heavy Mineral (BSM) exploration

 

2016
  • Three units of WD-XRF commissioned at Nagpur, Jaipur and Bengaluru
  • NABL {ISO 17025) accreditation of  Chemistry Laboratory, Hyderabad
  • Isotope Ratio Mass Spectrometer (IRMS) unit commissioned at Hyderabad
  • Exploratory mining initiated at Rohil uranium deposit,Sikar district, Rajasthan
  • Office complex of South Central Region inaugurated by Dr. Sekhar Basu, Chairman, AEC and Secretary, DAE at Cherlapalle, Hyderabad.
