The prime mandate of Atomic
Minerals Directorate for Exploration and Research is to identify and
evaluate uranium resources required for the successful
implementation of Atomic Energy programme of the country. For
implementing this important task investigations are taken up across
the length and breadth of the country from Regional Exploration
& Research Centres located at New Delhi , Bangalore, Jamshedpur,
Shillong, Jaipur, Nagpur and Hyderabad (AMD Headquarter & South
Central Region). The Directorate is presently employing world’s
latest technology viz. Time Domain EM system along with gamma-ray
spectrometer, magnetometer and gravimeter for airborne geophysical
surveys, and multi-disciplinary field operations viz. geological,
geophysical, geochemical surveys on regional as well as detailed
scale and drilling activities by induction of state of the art
hydrostatic rigs. The laboratories, to support the field
investigations, are equally well equipped with latest facilities
viz. Mineralogy-Petrology-Geochronology Group with WDXRF, EPMA and
Chemistry Group with ICP-OES, ICP-MS, and these labs are in the
process of acquiring SX 100 EPMA, EDXRF and TIMS. The Directorate
also has a Beach-sands & Offshore Investigations Group and very
well equipped Physics and Instrumentation
Groups.
